6 Simple Ways To Bust Bloating & Dominate Digestion

Bloating and digestion difficulties – two things people rarely talk about (understandably so), but almost everyone experiences. I never really realized these complications until after we eliminated dairy and grains from our diet for a super long time and then I tried to eat some pizza. That didn’t go so well. It tasted great going down, but not long after my stomach was aching and I was very…gaseous. (#embarassing)

Bummer! I love pizza! Why did that happen? Turns out, dairy and grains are highly inflammatory. I’ve felt uncomfortable after eating in years past, but I never really paid attention to what foods caused it. Now it was worse, and I had to do something about it. My choices were 1) never eat certain food groups again, or 2) figure out a way to help the digestion process.

“Digestion is such a central process in our bodies, one of the most energy intensive. It is also responsible for not only breaking down food but also helping absorb and assimilate nutrients. When your digestion is efficient and healthy, your entire body functions well. Yet, when digestion is not working well, that’s when congestion and bloating begins.” (kimberlysnyder.com)

After much research along with trial and error, here are the things that have helped me the most.

6 Simple Ways To Bust Bloating & Dominate Digestion

1 – Hold The Ice

Drinking water is great, but luke warm water is actually better on the digestive system. “When drinking cold drinks, you dilute the digestive enzymes your body needs for the digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.” Also, try to keep most of you water consumption between meals, rather than during meal time.

2 – Supplement With a Digestive Enzyme

Digestive enzymes play an important role in our health, but as we age, the amount of enzymes that our body naturally produces declines. USANA’s Digestive Enzyme supplies a wide range of supplemental enzymes that support the breakdown of dietary carbohydrates, fat, protein, lactose, and cellulose (from plants). It encourages more complete digestion to support the absorption of macronutrients.* In addition, USANA’s supplement is unique because it contains artichoke extract, which helps relieve occasional stomach upset, especially after a large meal.*

4 – Yoga

I’m no yoga pro, but these two poses open and stretch the front of the body, which encourage blood flow and improve digestion.

5 – Chew Your Food WELL

Last week we were on vacation to beautiful Colorado. We arrived at the truck after a 4 hour hike and I was starving! We were trying to find some food, and the first one that popped up was called, “Snarfs.” To which my husband replied, “That sounds like your style.” HAH! Apparently I can work on this.  I think being a mom requires fast eating, but taking the time to chew your food really helps with digestion because it’s breaking down your food that much more.

6 – Use Essential Oils

DoTerra has a great one called Digestzen that you dilute and put right on your tummy.
